While mass adoption of cryptocurrencies has died down after last year's industry implosion, the CEO of trading platform eToro believes ETFs' appeal to institutions and the ease of investing through various platforms could further boost crypto adoption.

Yoni Assia explains that institutions usually have rigid systems and don't want to build new infrastructure for every asset class. However, for him, products like ETFs align with their existing ways of working, making it easier for them to enter the market without developing new frameworks.

“ETFs could be a significant driver of adoption because institutions operate in a very rigid way. They require an already existing infrastructure, and the ETF is in many cases that infrastructure that enables exposure to institutions," says Assia.

He added that the availability of a BTC ETF would likely strengthen bitcoin's legitimacy in the eyes of institutional investors and, in turn, could support the asset's price since it is a well-known and common institutionalized form of investment.

Also, according to Assia, the ease of investing in crypto through user-friendly platforms and its integration into various investment portfolios are key to getting more retail users into the market.

The eToro CEO believes that platforms like his will make it easier for people to accumulate cryptocurrencies in the same way some investors trade gold or any other commodity.

“At the retail level, it's all about user experience, simplicity and the ability to incorporate crypto investing and crypto trading into a broader portfolio. I believe that cryptocurrencies should be part of a holistic view of investing,” adds Assia.

As for further adoption, there is no fear for Assia: "Crypto is still an emerging Internet commodity and we will continue to see increased interest over time. I have no doubt that in 10 years crypto will see significantly higher prices and be a much more significant force in the world.”
